Am I ready for sex?

I have been with my boyfriend for over a year and I feel more comfortable with him than any other person. We also discuss sex often and we both are extremely open and honest. We both have said that we think we’re ready however my mom asked me if we’re going to have sex and I told her that I don’t want to have this discussion with her. She said because I can’t have this discussion with her it shows I’m not ready to have sex. My boyfriend and I however feel that we are ready to take the next step. We’re both religious and we feel that sex is a large commitment but one that we want to make. My mom’s statement just made me wonder what others think of the issue. Honestly I feel that as two adults we should be able to make this decision for ourselves without discussing such intimate details with others. But I am curious to know other people’s thoughts.
