Did you watch “When They See Us?”

Surprised I hadn’t seen this posted here. 
Personally, It’s hard. It is a version that wasn’t heard (Sara did a documentary initially in 2012). Ava D. Put together this beautiful piece. What’s your thoughts? How do/did you feel? 
It’s on Netflix. 
This “type” of injustice is also exhibited in the more recent case of Kalief Browder. Also, read up on the Murder of Karina Vetrano.

It made me angry like really really mad. I hope all the people who knowingly put those boys away knowing they were innocent gets their share of karma.

Yes. It was a good series (well directed and acted) and so eye opening. So fucked up and wrong. I feel so bad for them. That blonde idiot detective is the worst too

I balled my eyes out throughout the whole series, especially at the end to see what Corey went through. The actor that portrayed him did an amazing job and I was captivated by his emotion. 
I think this series couldn’t have come out at a better time for the US. It seems like people want to brush racism and injustice under the rug as if it doesn’t happen anymore. But this series opened that dialogue again and got everyone talking. It shows just how easy it was back then for a case to be “open and shut” when it came to POC being targeted since they were seen as poor and uneducated- sadly law enforcement and the justice system saw those boys as an easy target. It’s terrible and despicable! And to see how helpless the parents felt and desperate for their sons to come home really exhibited the fact that it happened all of the time and sadly still does. 
And not to mention Trumps maniacal behavior towards those innocent CHILDREN!

Planning to watch. Raising a son today is scary, I pray daily for my husband and him. He is now 13 and very naive, a true child. I know we need to prepare him for how he will be perceived by society just because of the color of his skin. We will watch with him so he understands that he must be extra careful more than his white counterparts because of his skin he is considered a threat to society. He is reaching the age that his elite friends will begin to not be his friend or only talk to him in school. The innocence is beginning to be lost. I’m a big fan of Ava D., so glad she continues to bring topics to life that people don’t want to discuss.

I watched the beginning of it, but idk what it is with me but if I watch something I start to feel what the person is feeling, if that makes sense? Like I can’t watch something where someone gets embarrassed because then I’ll feel embarrassed and literally my whole body will cringe up and everything like it happened to me. But the show had such raw emotion and a lot of blatant ignorance in it that I literally couldn’t continue watching it out of anger. It made me feel frustrated that I couldn’t yell at the people in my tv lmao

I ugly cried watching this. My niece and nephew are POC. He has been stopped and searched while walking with what friends, who didn’t get searched because he “fit a description”. He is 12 years old! It is so sad the racial injustice that still exists. On top of the way our justice system searches for any one to blame even if they aren’t guilty. Yet someone like Casey Anthony can walk free and live a happy life.
