Toddler starting to lie?

Question

My almost 2.5 year old has started to lie and I’m not sure how to handle it. I don’t know that he understands the concept fully and I don’t know how to explain it it get it to stop. Which it needs to. 
Examples: yesterday he told his dad I hit him. This did not happen we don’t hit our kids 
The other day he had a bite mark on his arm I asked how it happened he said his dad bit him now obviously my husband didn’t bite him the teeth mark was obviously my sons own teeth and I asked bc I was curious what he would say 
The hurting himself and saying it was someone else is new and he’s only done that once 
But he often if he gets upset will go up to me or my husband and say mommy or daddy hit me or pinched me and it’s not true ! I don’t understand why he’s saying this or where he got it from. 
Aside from making me worry he’s going to start saying these untrue things in public it makes me sad and confused as to why this is happening. 
Advice ??? How to I make it stop and explain the concept of lying ?

I am a mom of 6...best advice.. Just ignore when he lies.. But later on sit him down and tell him a story.. About the little boy who called wolf... And lied.... Make sure you make the story dramatic on how people never believed him. Or wanted to be his friend.. Ect.... I found with all my kids the more attention you give them the time of the lie... The more they will continue.. Best thing is to down play the lie.. But at a later time in the day.. Tell him how bad a lie is... So far.. Worked with all 5 of mine... 6th been newborn... Best advice I can give.

Is he picking up this behavior from other places like daycare?

It's actually really common for toddlers to lie. I've never came across a toddler in my life who hasnt lied. It's just what they go through. They are learning and telling lies is just as healthy as telling the truth. All you can do is tell your toddler that these lies aren't nice and can get mummy and daddy and others in trouble and the truth is always best. Your child is still so young and they've just discovered something so huge and they dont understand how bad lying can be. My niece used to say her daddy hits her and drinks beer all day and neither of them was true lol. My other niece said her daddy bites her but the teeth mark's are baby teeth and not adult teeth. I dont have a clue why kids lie, especially about things like this. But weve all done it. Both of my nieces mainly used lies to play their parents off against each other. I hope it doesnt get too out of hand for you!

My husband and 4 year old son love to wrestle around and one day in the checkout of Walmart the kid says “my daddy beats me”. 🙄🙄 imagine the looks we got. Kids are stressful. You’ve got this momma.

My nephew went through the same stage saying that his step dad and his own mother would tell him off or hit him... he used to play the two against each other so he would be able to get stuff out of the biscuit tin :/ eventually my sister would confront him calling him out for lying and tell him off explaining to him if he said those things in public the family could be in trouble after a couple of weeks it stopped.... my sister thought it was more of a attention thing.

Ask him if he wants to be taken away from mommy and daddy and be out with strangers because that's what will happen with his lies.
Or lie he going to go somewhere hes been wanting to or get a special treat but the say you lied and explain how lies hurt people.

Oh man I thought my kid was the only one. she is 2.5 and she started lying a month or so ago. same stuff,  if I tell her to put something back in the store, she will start screaming OW you hurt me and I didn’t even touch her and I tell her that isn’t nice because she is lying and I didn’t hit her and she argues saying you hit me you hit me or so many other things.  she will trip and start fake crying I ask her if she is ok and she will say yes so and so pushed me (my nieces) and they aren’t even there so I tell her they aren’t here why is she lying so she will change the person that supposedly pushed her and name someone else.  I haven’t figured out how to handle it either yet.

My 3 year old started telling these elaborate tales/stories and has started doing ‘daddy says it’s okay’ when I know he wouldn’t have. So she’s trying to be a master manipulator. I think just as long as you reinforce that biting and hitting hurts people and mommy/daddy would never hurt people. I think it’s normal kids are just trying to figure out what to do with all the stuff they see and do. Their brains are working in overdrive.

My daughter is a liar too. It started around 2.5 and now she’ll be 3 in a couple weeks she lies and tells tall tales all the time. And while she doesn’t lie about the serious things yours is, or rather she hasn’t yet, I’m right there with you on not knowing how to handle it. But I did read that it shows advanced cognitive function, so there’s that 👍🏼 Mine does often use lying as a way to try and get my husband to do what she wants after I’ve said no, or if the other isn’t around and she’s told no. So perhaps your kiddo is lying in a similar way. Like mommy didn’t let me have fishy crackers for dinner so I’m going to get her in trouble with daddy. Like, it’s a way for them to control what they want, or have control over a situation where they have none 🤷🏼‍♀️ but as to what to do about it? I have no clue! But you’re not alone!
