Is co-sleeping for me?
Looong post but let me preface with a little background to this consideration: We decided to not get a bassinet just because of how costly they are for a short term use. However we do want her in our room while she's still small and new. My husband and I work opposite shifts so there is room in our queen sized bed throughout the week so I thought it would be fine if I got a little co-sleeper for her to be in while I'm alone at night and he's alone during the day, then on weekends while he's home we could have her in her crib. We were recently graciously gifted an Owlet by his co-worker so we thought there's some peace of mind if she's in her crib with both of us home and she has her with her Owlet on. So the weekend would be the only days she's not at arm's reach which we decided would be okay since we can back each other up.
So that plan felt pretty solid to me, however I worry that I'm a tornado when I sleep. I've always tossed and turned in my sleep even since I was a kid. I bought the Baby Delight snuggle nest dream and still have a worry that I might roll over on it, pull the covers out from under it, or over it in my sleep. I thought that I would do a trial run this week, just have it in the bed with me while I sleep and see if I can sense it being there enough to not knock it off the bed.
My questions for any moms out there who plan to co-sleep or have co-slept before:
1. Were you able to sleep safely with it in your bed?
2. What did you do with your covers? Did you have the sleeper on top of or off the covers? Did you use a separate blanket to avoid covers being thrown over the sleeper?
3. Is there anything I can do to ensure it stays on the bed with me?
Some disclaimers: Not interested in paying for a different product, Dockatot is way too expensive, if we did that we might as well buy a Halo bassinet which we deemed both just too expensive for what they are. We want to troubleshoot this and hope it works for us, but our daughter's safety is first and foremost.
Go easy on me, just trying to feel out a solution that I hadn't considered before and just feel a little uneasy but I also feel that it might be a better option for us overall if we can safely and confidently make it work.
Thanks in advance!!
