Do they make exceptions for food during labor?

I'm hypoglycemic so when I don't eat for a while i can get a random low blood sugar episode where it feels like im dying. I get tunnel vision to where i cannot function until i stuff my face with food. Like sweating, shaking, extreme weakness, totally out of it, out of breath, sometimes when the episode is bad, i can barely concentrate on walking to the kitchen and preparing myself food.
My concern is going into labor unexpectedly and not being able to eat before hand. Then during labor having an episode and not be able to push him out. Does anyone know if they make exceptions for food during labor?

I’m not 100% sure but my guess would be no. They might be able to give you something through your IV to help with your hypoglycemia. The reason you can’t eat is in case of needing to have a c-section I believe.

My hospital encourages eating during labor. Not eating is super outdated. I would ask your hospital what their policy is. And at the end of the day, they cant force you to not eat its ultimately your choice. Do what's best for you.

Mine have been super strict on no food whatever. They offered my ice chips. I was starving! After I had my first, I ate a 12” subway sandwich, a bag of chips, and a piece of cake.

Bring jolly ranchers or other hard candies! My nurse had no problem with me eating hard candies during labor. Also, I’m sure your nurses will be able to keep your condition under control so that you don’t experience that, just make sure you fully communicate with them!

I was allowed ice chips and sucking candy (lollipops, jolly ranchers, etc, but I wasn't allowed to chew the candy). Mid push my doctor offered me an ice cream sandwich that someone had brought in. Needless to say that was the encouragement I needed and 2 hours after giving birth I had the best tasting ice cream sandwich ever (it was one of those store bought cookie sandwiches but in my mind it equaled heaven)

You can get everything you need through an IV. I was in the hospital for a week for paralyzed intestines in highschool and I didn’t eat for a week. I’m pretty sure if your labor is going good they’ll allow a small snack but if not, your IV will give you enough.

Because I had an epidural I was allowed to have clear liquids, but I didn’t realize how much food that actually was! Jello, broth, popsicles, juice, etc. I felt content with what I had and they were willing to get me more food when I needed it.

The hospital will know how to deal with your blood sugar while you’re in labour. I wouldn’t be concerned.
