Car seat for 2 year old?

So my son has officially outgrown his Britax infant car seat. I’m having a hell of a time finding a new one to accommodate his size/height. Do any mamas with kids the same age have any recommendations? Do we go forward facing this early? I’ve seen so much mixed information. I appreciate it!

If he just outgrew the Britax infant seat, he must be quite small for his age. I don’t see why you would be having trouble then, any convertible seat should do.
It’s best to keep him rear-facing as long as possible. Most convertibles can rear-face until at least 40lbs or 40” and some have even higher limits. My Clek Fllo goes to 50lbs or 43” rear facing. 
How tall is your son? How much does he weigh?

My son is 34inches tall and 40lbs still rear facing in his graco 4ever all in one extend to fit. He’s used this seat since birth and will keep this seat until he is 10 or 120lbs. Seat is rear facing up to 50lbs.

So, I was feeling some type of way about turning my son around at one but I went to the professionals (as I always do) to install my seat and they said it was completely safe (as he is the size of a two and half year old). I got in a car crash where I slammed my car into another car at pushing 70 miles an hour (because I thought my son was choking and my mom instincts kicked in and the first thing I did was turn around to help him but when I turned back around I panicked and hit the gas not the break) anyways, he was forward facing and not only did he walk out of that car, he did not have ONE scratch on him (he was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and checked extensively by doctors and not one thing was wrong)  and his car seat did not move more than three inches.   If you put your child in forward facing tightly and securely and the straps and chest clip are on properly, he is perfectly safe forward facing at two.

I have the Chicco Nextfit Zip and the Britax Boulevard! They both should accommodate your little guy and have excellent safety ratings! They’re both steel enforced seats so they aren’t just made of plastic, they’re super sturdy! The Chicco seat can be used up to 35lbs rear facing using the LATCH system or 40 using seatbelt installation! The Britax seat you can using rear facing until 40lbs! My niece is in the Chicco one still (comfortably!) at almost 5, forward facing.

Britax Boulevard Clicktight! Really tight fit and Easiest install ever! We had a diono rainier and had problems with getting a tight fit bc of the depth of our seats, plus the install is annoying and the straps always tightened unevenly, so we put that in my husbands truck and got a new one for my SUV which is our primary vehicle. 
We switched our son to forward facing at 15 months bc he screamed bloody murder in the car seat when he was rear facing, he’s also big for his age though 27 lbs and 33 inches, so we were good to switch him as per the minimum height and weight requirements. 
Good luck finding a seat! Your best bet would be to find a baby store that will dry fit the seat into your car so you can see how it fits before you buy
