Okay not to LOVE his family members??

Forewarning: I need to rant, hateful responses will be removed 🙏🏼

I love my boyfriend and generally have a great relationship with his family. They’re always very welcoming and kind to me and I overall have no issue with them. (Just some info, we’re both recent college grads and have been together about 5 years).

Lovely people, but his dad’s ideologies as a die-hard Catholic and conservative republican clash with my own: I’m a liberal, raised-Catholic daughter of immigrant parents and I’ve had an abortion this year (I’ll let you guess what he LOVES to rant about).

Out of respect, I always divert the conversation elsewhere since it can be hard to calmly explain abortion rights without becoming emotional about mine.

I have a good relationship with both his sisters, but I’ve noticed lately I become easily irked by his older sister who I feel can be so clueless and irritating even to my boyfriend. Sometimes people can’t help it, but she’s a grown woman and will say hurtful things at times because she doesn’t think twice.

His other sister is often whining about how much she does for her brother (my bf) and demands praise for everything she VOLUNTARILY does for him. When he was playing football she’d go to as many games possible (which is awesome!) but she’d later give him a rough time about how she leaves work early, etc JUST for him and he should be thanking her for being the sister or the year. When he graduated, she literally STOLE some of his gifts and now they’re fine.

I understand families are not happy-go-lucky perfect all the time- trust me I have my own to deal with. But I just needed to rant to someone about how annoyed I’ve been lately because my boyfriend doesn’t deserve bad treatment and it can be tricky to talk to someone about being irritated by their family. I love his family at times, but I can’t stand some of them other times and I feel terrible about that 😪😪😑
