Was your IUD inserted during your period?

My doctor is ordering my IUD and said to call the first day of my next period to have it inserted. My issue is that my last period started 4 days ago and I don’t want to go another whole month without birth control. I had an IUD before that was inserted before my first PP period but my cervix was still a little open. Is it really that bad not on your period? Should I wait?

I wasn’t. I got mine inserted the day I asked about it.

I was on the pill so I was able to schedule when I knew it was coming. I had to wait over a month as well but it was worth it. 
I was told that they want you on your period for 2 reasons. 1 - Because the lining of the cervix is at its thinnest during our periods. And 2 - it’s a secondary way to make sure you aren’t pregnant (they do a pregnancy test and confirm you are on your period). Seems redundant but it makes sense - my sister got false negatives both at home and at the DR. Wasn’t until they drew blood at 5 months that they confirmed she was to give birth in 3 months lol

Ive had 1 inserted on my period and one not and it was literally the same even tho they say its different.
