IUD experiences?

Considering a copper IUD but freaking terrified. What was your experience like?

I was told that the copper IUD has a lot more side effects than the hormonal IUD. My doctor encouraged me to get the mirena instead of the copper one. He said that the copper one will make your period very heavy along with other side effects.. I was worried about the hormonal IUD because of weight gain mostly.. he told me that it doesn't affect any of that because it's in your uterus and it only affects your uterus. I love mine. I haven't had any trouble at all with it.

I’ve just had the copper IUD fitted today a couple hours ago and I can just say it is painful not going to lie the procedure hurts but it’s mainly after it like really bad menstrual cramps and also spreading to my leg but I’ve heard long term it’s brilliant and all the doctors and nurses in the clinic / hospital have one which assured me and speaks volumes too, it’s the most effective birth control also used as an emergency contraceptive! and non hormonal so won’t alter your moods etc I am just going to ride it out and manage my pain with painkillers for a few weeks and see how I get on hopefully it eases apparently the first 2 days are the most painful and gradually the pain decreases a lot of girls I work with swear by it x
