Advice needed: how to prepare 4 year old for surgery?

So my daughter has been scheduled to have her tonsils and adenoids out a week and a half after her 4th birthday. She’s an extremely clingy mommy’s girl and I know this will ne terrifying for her. Is there anything I can do in the next few weeks to help her out?

i’m sure there are lots of children’s books specifically for this. just try to explain everything that’ll happen so she’s not overwhelmed and scared.

My son had this surgery at 5, he did awesome. I swear it took 15 minutes. I tried not to go into to much detail with him, because I didn’t want to scare him. I just told him he can have ice cream for a week. He was excited. They have you carry the child all the way to the back. I got to hold my son until the mask made him fall asleep, then the called me back before he woke up.
