Females, housework, and innate sexism

Philomena

So I recently read a book that quoted recent statistics saying that even when a man was a stay at home dad and mom worked full time, she still ended up doing 50% more housework than the guy. The author stated this was both due to innate sexism regarding rolls which is more apparent after having a child, and also that women do a lot of invisible work around the house. So men tend to do jobs that are obvious and they'll get recognition for, like getting the groceries, while women do invisible jobs like cleaning the shower-- jobs that only are noticeable when not done. I've definitely noticed this in my own relationship, and I wanted to know what you guys thought. Is this a common thing? What can be done about it?
