I’m not racist..... am I?

Ok so I have been divorced for about a year and a half now and I was talking to my mom about getting remarried and needing her help to find some one (religious reasons) and she asked me what kind of man am I looking for. So I said Hispanic and she looked at me funny when I said I didn’t want to marry an African American. I don’t think I’m racist but my sister jokes around and says it sometimes, I mean I do find African American men attractive but when I think of a spouse I have a certain preference.

Why do you not want to marry a black man despite them finding them attractive? Racist might be a bit of a stretch but excluding a race primarily due to their race isn’t exactly not-racist.

That’s not being racist.  I personally wouldn’t ever date or marry an African American man, Asian, or Hispanic man. I’m not attracted to them. I have plenty of friends who are those races. But personally I’m attracted to white guys. My fiancé is white. It’s what I’m attracted to. I don’t think you’re racist. It’s just a preference.

I've never understood racial preferences or why race still matters so much in 2019. If you find the person attractive and the feeling is mutual and you're both respectful of each other why not go for it? I think the word racist is a bit harsh here, though. Maybe the term problematic is a better fit

I don’t think it makes you racist but I do think you’re eliminating a lot of potential great men by thinking that way. I would look for certain personality traits to determine who would make a good spouse, regardless of color. What if you met a man who didn’t have your ideal outwards appearance but was the most loving, supportive partner you could imagine? Idk, I just think certain things are more important than looks but it’s not wrong to have a preference 😁

I honestly would never date an African American or Asian. They’re just not my type, and I’m able to have my own preference of what I find attractive to me or what I don’t. 🤷🏽‍♀️
