Anyone getting a midwife?

I am curious how it is to have a midwife. My insurance completely covers it. This will be my last baby. #5
I want to do something different. Maybe a home water birth. I don’t want to have a baby in a bed. I want my last birth to be special and I want my family there. I found one about 5 miles from me and she seems good. How have your experiences been with a midwife? What did u like or not like? Was it easier than going to the hospital? Thanx in advance.

I had a midwife with my first and I loved her. I get really anxious around hospitals and doctors and all that kind of stuff so seeing her was so much easier for me. I ended up needing to be induced for medical reasons so I wasn’t allowed to do a home birth but she came with me to the hospital and supported me through the whole process. Then instead of having to take your newborn to a doctors office, the midwife does home visits which is amazing.

This will be my 4th and will be having a home water birth with a midwife. Unfortunately the closest midwife to me is 1 hr and 45 min away so I will also see a OB that works with her for some of my appointments. I too would love to have this experience at home surrounded by my family.

I’ve never considered one but my insurance covers my OB and delivery at 100% so it’s never came up. I love my OB, she’s amazing and very personable. I have her cell number. I also had a very rough first pregnancy, kidney stones every 2 weeks where I was admitted, ICP, and then high BP. I ended in a emergency csection so I’ll be with an OB for all my pregnancies. I say do what your heart feels! Sounds like a midwife will do amazing for you ❤️

I had an OB for my very first pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage at 17 weeks. & honestly throughout that whole time with the OB it just felt very disconnected and off. I switched to a midwife a week before my miscarriage and felt more of a connection and personal care in that week and even after I had to delivery then in the whole time at the OB. Now I could have just gotten a bad OB, but 🤷🏽‍♀️ 
My second pregnancy with my son I had a midwife from start to finish and the 6 weeks after birth. The absolute best decision I’ve ever made. This third pregnancy will also be with a midwife. At your appointments you are cared for on such a more personal level. The appointments are longer than that short 10 minute OB appointment. You have their personal numbers and can call with any questions or concerns. On top of the fact that midwives are trained professionals that only deal with pregnancy and birth. Where OB are trained in a bunch of areas including pregnancy.   Having a midwife is absolutely amazing, I can only talk about my experience but it was a great one. 10/10

I had an ob my entire pregnancy that I loved but a midwife ended up delivering me since she was on call at the hospital that day and my ob wasn’t.

I’m hoping to get a midwife. I want a home birth. But the VA covers midwives but not home births so not sure what to do yet or just pay out of pocket for the home birth.
