Anybody doing or have done a birth doula?

Hi ladies! I was wondering if any of you are planning to have a doula present at your birth, or if any of you have experience and input. Thanks! 😊💗💙

I’ve hired one! This is my 4th baby but the first one I’m doing natural, so we decided to hire a doula to help with everything. We LOVE her and I’m very confident I can get through an unmediated birth with her support 
On another note, a lot of cities have organizations that offer doula services for free or donations only for those who can’t afford it.

This is my second birth and second time hiring a doula. Mine was amazing with our first. I could not have done unmedicated labor without her. She was so helpful in keeping me relaxed, focused and comfortable. She also made sure my husband was involved in the most productive way possible. I think he would have been way less useful without her. (He would have tried but he would not have known just the right thing to do or the right way to help. It’s not intuitive for him). She helped with logistics of when to go to the hospital and mediated with the hospital staff for me to help me stick to my birth plan and be as comfortable as possible. If she had not been there I would have been stuck in bed due to my BP spiking. But she convinced them to let me labor next to the bed on various equipment. I really can’t say enough good things about her. We just met today to discuss this upcoming birth and I am excited to do this again with her!

I have one because I’m a FTM and family is a bit far from me. My husband is the type of person that will be freaking out and not what to do so I needed a “birth expert” to put me at ease

I did the first time. Would recommend it. She was very helpful. I would hire again this time but finances don’t really allow it.

This is my fourth child but first time hiring a doula. I absolutely love having her around. She has taught me things I never new. We live far from family and my youngest hates hospitals and doctors so it was either I go it alone or we drag kids with. At least the youngest so we opted for a doula to be with me. I actually am excited to give birth again. All natural again.

I have hired a doula for my birth! I am a FTM, and with my husbands job I didn’t know if he would be able to be present for the birth (he will be 😊 ) and we live far from family. 
I wanted someone to be with me who is a “birth expert” and advocate for me and how I want my birth to go which is natural, with the reservation that I can change my mind if I want to in the moment ha. Plus, calm and reassure my husband that labor is normal even when I’m in pain haha. 
We interviewed several doulas to see which one we felt most comfortable with and connected to... and I love her! She is an advocate for evidence based birth, views her role as someone who can help me relieve pain with different techniques (rebozo, spinning babies, peanut balls etc), and will remind me to take a minute to think about any interventions that the medical team suggests (as long as it’s not an emergency situation). 
I’m having my final meeting with her next week to help finalize my birth plan  :-)
