FTM question- did you bring your breast pump to the hospital?

I’m planning on a vaginal delivery. Did you pack your breast pump or did you pump when you got home? I want my milk to come in quickly. I still haven’t had the breastfeeding class so I apologize if this is a dumb question

No, you don’t need it. 
Baby to breast and skin to skin are the most effective ways to make your milk come in. You will only be spending maybe 24-48 hours there, your milk may take 72 hours to come in and you want baby to get as much colostrum is possible straight from the boob.

My midwife said to not bring it in if I’m planning on breastfeeding. The baby alone will get your milk to come in quickly :)

I’m bringing mine just in case and also might ask for some pointers from the lactation consultant and want to have my specific pump with me so I know what I’m doing... because at this point I definitely DON’T know what I’m doing 😂

They usually have one you can use but if you want the LC on staff to help you figure out how to use it then I would bring yours along.

No. It’s an extra thing to carry and they have some there if I need it. I took a class at the hospital and they recommended to start pumping at 3 weeks after birth.

My biggest regret about my labor last time was not bringing my pump to the hospital. In my head I just assumed baby would drain my boobs and I'd be fine. My milk ended up coming in within 12 hours of delivering her, and my hospital did not have any pumps handy. In the end, I was sending my milk down the drain in the shower because it had no where to go with a baby whose tummy is the size of a pea. Such a waste. I highly recommend bringing it just in case. Every boob set is different! Lol
