Elective Induction?

Hello fellow expecting mommies!
I just left my 38 week appointment today and my midwife brought up the topic of elective induction at 39 weeks. 
Obviously I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my little guy and want to meet him sooner rather than later and I feel a bit out of control of the entire situation.
I think I'm leaning towards moving forward with getting an elective induction scheduled because:
1. All of the research I've found says it's safe for both baby and momma at 39 weeks +
2. My mom lives in another state and it's honestly stressing me out thinking that she may not make it here for him being born (the uncertainty of spontaneous labor)
3. My husband recently started a new job and we don't know how much time he will get off of work and I want to make sure he will be able to be with me in the hospital.  What are your thoughts on Elective Induction at 39 weeks?  
Anyone have experience?

I just spoke with my mom about this. She had a scheduled induction with my brother, and it was no big deal for her. She said it was nice to have the night before with me and her mom, and that everything went fine the next day. She stalled out at one point and they upped some pitocin, and my brother was born a couple of hours later. I think for every horror story we hear about anything with fertility, pregnancy, labor, etc. we have to remember there’s also a good story. I’d write down all your questions that come up and see if you can talk to your doctor before making that final decision!

Someone else just posted about this. Me personally? I would never chose to get induced just because I have read statistics on complications and emergency c sections because your body just wasn’t ready to deliver a baby yet. On the other hand there are just as many successful stories on inductions. Unless it is medically necessary, I do not see the need to get induced just for convenience.

Some people it works fine. Others it ends in a traumatic birth experience. I can understand wanting more control of your situation due to your circumstances. My personal thoughts: evidence I’ve heard and read seems to suggest its best to allow your body to go into labor on its own when baby and you are both ready. It just tends to lean towards better outcomes. I have a suspicion that my cycle is longer than the norm and thus I don’t want to be induced early because my baby may not actually be as developed as the estimated due date would assume. I may have ovulated later than the norm and thus my baby would be younger than average if going by estimating dates. But ultimately, it’s your body and your baby and you need to do whatever is right for you and your family.

I'll be having my 4th elective induction. I'll be waiting until 40 weeks this time ONLY because my OB will be out of town for my 39th week. The 3 I've had have all went smoothly. Knowing exactly when has always helped us. I live 45 minutes from my hospital, no car babies. My husband works the road and could possibly miss our child's birth. My dad comes to watch our children and he lives 6.5 hours away. It is what's best for our family 🤷‍♀️.

Doing it because it makes me feel better! It was between that and an elective C. We’re inducing on my due date if she doesn’t come before! 20 days left!!!!

Do what feels right! But - let me say that inductions are no joke. They tend to lead toward much much more painful labor and put you at risk of more medical intervention. I was induced with my first. The pain was unbearable, and I ended up needing a forceps delivery - almost c section - after pushing for 4 hours. I’m doing everything I can to avoid being induced this time.

After a failed induction @ 42 weeks after broken waters ending in a traumatic emergency csection, nah I wouldn’t recommend to do it earlier

I was induced at 42 weeks and after 3 days my body still wasn't ready 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I know most don't recommend it too early, as like others mentioned you're more likely to end up needing intervention or an emergency csection.

I don’t have any personal experience but everyone I know who was induced has commented it’s a grueling  process. It tends be harder, more painful, and take a long time. However it’s totally up to you. I can understand having a date planned and being prepared with your circumstances.

I had an induction by choice at 41 weeks..this was the soonest my OB would allow it. It was great. No issues at all
