Legal name Tripp or use as nn? read discription

We love the name Tripp, which is traditionally a nickname for “the third”. We want to use it for our third born son. Should we use it as his legal name or a nickname? TIA :)

Fyi the way Tripp is used as “the third” is traditionally for like, the third descendent of his name. Like, grandfather is John Doe, father is John Doe Jr, child is John Doe III and you could call him Tripp as a nickname. 
Of course you can do whatever you want, but just so you know that’s the context of it being short for “the third”

I know a trip whose actual name is Joseph, very confusing, especially in school, as no one calls him that

I think if you're going to use Tripp you need to be all in, first name or nothing. Just my opinion though 🤷‍♀️

Tripp Allen really is the best choice. Phillip is not

What if you did a first name with a strong TR sound and the middle Phillip then Tripp would work great as a nn. Like Truman Phillip = Tripp. Trey, Troy, Travis, Trevor, etc. Truman is the only one I really love from those, but just a thought.
