Do I tell family before the wedding

Question

So I have my cousins wedding in September, I’ll be 13 weeks and obviously not drinking and giving most of my food to my partner (starter is either pate or goats cheese - so I’m buggered with that!). We’re not particularly close to that side of the family but I feel that if they find out on the day then they’d feel I’m stealing my cousins thunder a bit. Should I call the week before and “announce it” or just play it down on the day and not make too much out of it? 🙈

Just say you don’t like the starter and you aren’t drinking cuz you are driving.

They're gonna be so caught up in the wedding excitement they won't notice you refused the appetizer. For toasts, you can accept the wine or champagne, toast and take a sip. One sip is absolutely fine. If anyone questions you not drinking more, you can say you've had heartburn all day or that you simply don't care for the champagne.  You can tell your immediate family, but I would personally hold off until after the wedding, or announce much earlier like 9 weeks if you feel like you can't wait. But we didn't tell extended family until 14 weeks and there was no wedding.

Wait until AFTER the wedding.. theres nothing worse than somebody stealing your thunder, just downplay it..

Can either cook an excuse up- for example I said that I was on antibiotics for a chest infection that I couldn’t drink with ! No pressure on you then.. and also doesn’t take anything away from the wedding!

Either announce soon (not the week before, that's still stealing thunder imo - - more like now) or just be subtle at the wedding. Either is perfectly fine, just depends what you feel like doing.

I went to a family wedding before I announced and just accepted a glass of wine but didn't drink it, no one noticed. With the food, just say you don't care for it 🤷🏼‍♀️

To be honest I'd keep quiet. I went to a boyfriend's friend's birthday party when I first found out I was pregnant and he kept offering me my favourite drink. He just couldn't understand why I didn't want to drink, my boyfriend didn't drink either to make me feel better. No one noticed a thing, they found it odd but no one but two and two together.

Personally, I would just say you don’t like the starters, and then tell the bartender on the sly you can’t have alcohol and get special “mixed drinks” made. I went to a wedding and was drinking grapefruit, orange juice and seltzer/club soda and no one questioned anything!
