Endometriosis?

A few days before I start my period now I always cramp really bad to the point I dont want to move. I always get into a hot bath to help the pain and take pain relievers but sometimes it doesn't work. What can I do to make the pain bearable? My sister has endometreosis and she told me to go and have them check me but I am scared of what they will do. I am so uncomfortable of others seeing my downstairs. Does anyone know how they check for endometriosis? Or should I mot be worried?

I had my endometriosis confirmed through a laparoscopy. Doctor said it was worse that what he initially thought when he did a transvaginal ultrasound. When he first did that he noticed dark spots on the screen as he scanned. Doctors have usually said they can never truly confirm endometriosis unit they take an actual look inside to see what’s going on. I totally understand those pains you get. Hope this helped.

I’m in the process of being checked and have no had any invasive exams other than a Pap smear, which isn’t necessary in most cases, we were just ruling out everything my gp could do. First step is usually an ultrasound done abdominally and then maybe a ct scan for a better look. If they don’t show up much you may be referred to a specialist or gynaecologist, usually they prescribe bc if you aren’t already on any, but if the pain and symptoms persist then a laparoscopy is the last and only way to check for endo. Some people get bad cramps but don’t necessarily have endo, what other symptoms do you have?

I can understand why you’re scared but if your sister has confirmed endo you really, really should go get checked out. There’s evidence that you can have genetic predisposition to endo and a sister/mother with it is reason to start managing it sooner rather than later. 
This coming from someone who put off dealing with the spike in my worst symptoms for like two years. I’m finally having a laproscopy to look on August 13th. 
Ultrasounds can be suggestive but are not conclusive; they can identify other issues, like polyps, fibroids, cysts, etc. 
Same with MRIs from what my surgeon and my reading suggest. Sometimes MRIs show endometrial lesions but a clear MRI might not make you free of endo.
