Do breaks actually work?

My boyfriend and I are on a break, but we still love each other more than anything and ever since the break started (Monday) we’ve seen each other everyday. Monday was crying in each other’s arms. Tuesday was full of more laughter and only a few tears. So do breaks actually work? We are taking one because we were both hurting each other, mainly me because of my anxiety and depression. But I got help now. But do they actually help?
