A little background/context to this convo:

I’m currently 32 weeks, due late September. My mom and I have a pretty distant/unstable relationship and it’s been that way for many years. Only recently has she been open to talking, however that usually lasts a short while before she cuts me off and we go back to not talking for weeks, even months at a time.

Back in April she found out I was living with my husband’s parents, and it made her upset so she told me not to expect to see her when the baby arrived. It’s her first grand baby as well as my husband’s parents’ first.

She has been known to back out of plans last minute. We were supposed to have a family trip to the beach in May, but she backed out a few weeks before the trip. She backed out when I asked her to be apart of wedding planning, to which she’s told me it would fail, that I was making a mistake that she didn’t want to be apart of.

She wants to plan a baby shower for me and baby on August 24th. But she insists I be there physically at her place to plan it with her.

I was put on modified bed rest twice due to spotting/third trimester bleeding. I’ve been told to play it safe and not travel anywhere too far, as the last time I spotted I traveled about 1.5 hrs from home.

My mom lives 5 hours from me. I tried to explain that due to the recent situation with my pregnancy, I shouldn’t really be traveling too far. (It should be noted that she’s also not employed at the moment....)

Here was her response today:

I feel like she’s going to back out again... guess I’m a little bummed because she seemed so excited at first. Not really sure what to do.

*UPDATE 8/1/19* my mom officially backed out. Luckily I have a backup plan as well as awesome people who are willing to help plan out a shower with me. ♥️
