Pumping overnight?

If your babies are sleeping through the night do you wake up to pump? If you don’t pump, does it affect milk supply?
I’m waking up at 4:30am sweating because my breasts are engorged. Is this what I’ll need to do for as long as I breastfeed? How do other mommas manage this?

For most women, you don’t need to pump if your baby isn’t eating at that time. Your breasts are engorged at 4:30 am because you keep pumping then. You can stop and they’ll uncomfortable for a few days and then realize they don’t need to make milk at that time of day. Right now you’re sending them a signal, by pumping, that that milk is needed at that time, when in reality your baby is asleep. That’s the wonderful thing about breastfeeding, your breasts adapt as your baby’s needs change.

With my first I did pump at night bc I wanted to have a stash and keep my supply.  After a while I stopped bc I valued the sleep more.

I kept a milk storage bottle or bag in my room and would hand express. It was the only time I got a decent amount from expressing. Breastmilk can be out for up to 6 hrs so it was fine on my nightstand till I got up a few hrs later. it was either that or it leaked and was wasted in my nursing pads.
