Thrush??

What did you mamas do to get rid of thrush??
My son is 7weeks & definitely has it. Pediatrician prescribed nystatin but it hasn't worked. Any home remedies that work? Should I try taking a probiotic too?

By the way thrush is not treated with an antibiotic because it is not a bacteria. It is a yeast (fungus) it is treated with antifungals (Nystatin, Fluconazole). 
I just mention it because I see so many people think it’s an antibiotic 😊

1/2 on each side  of the cheek they are suppose to swallow it. After i put the medicine in his mouth i made sure i put his pacifier in that way he gets all of it

How long have you been using Nyastatin? You’re suppose to wipe his mouth gums and tongue after every feeding. Yes take a probiotic and drink alot of water and it doesn’t hurt to give your baby sips of water as well.

We did Nystatin. You can’t just put it in their mouth and let them swallow it. You have to actually rub it around on the thrush or else it won’t be effective. If an adult were taking it they would actually make you rinse your mouth with it but since babies can’t do that you need to put it in their mouth and rub it on the thrush. It doesn’t work through ingestion it works through contact. 
If that doesn’t work ask about Fluconazole. That works through your system so your baby would only need to swallow it. My doctor told me most insurance companies actually require them to try Nystatin before prescribing Fluconazole. 🤷🏻‍♀️ so it’s worth a try. 
You should probably get treated as well if you are breastfeeding or else you and baby can keep passing it back and forth. 
I know thrush is a pain!

I did a round of oral diflucan, which resolved my symptoms (my LO was asymptomatic), but then they came back about a week later. Next, I tried probiotic drops for her, and for me probiotics and Grapefruit Seed Extract capsules 3x/day for about 10 days. This seems to have resolved my symptoms.  Now I take the probiotics and GSE 1x/day as a preventative.
