Mastitis

I just had my baby 8 days ago. I’ve never been so exhausted in my life. Breastfeeding is the hardest thing I’ve ever done and I just feel like giving up already. Tonight I came down with chills and a 101 fever. I called the doc on call she said it’s most likely mastitis since it hurts and feels full and swollen. She called in an antiobiotic. She said to keep nursing and pumping bc I need to get the milk out. Well that’s easier sai than done!! I just pumped that beast and probably no more than a. Tablespoon came out. Why don’t they tell u how hard BF is?!?!?! Is it ok to go to sleep with a full boob? Help!

Hey girl ! Back in 2014 when I had my first I developed mastitis as well on my right breast . Things that will help is hot compress on that breast and massage it as much as possible when pumping or even feeding . In the shower you could let the hot water fall on your chest and massage it as well . It’s a clogged duct and they aren’t fun but with the antibiotics you should get better within a day and feel 100% better while feeding or pumping .. don’t stress if you can’t get all the milk out in one session just do your best and yes you’ll be okay if you decide to take a nap just be careful because you’ll most likely wake up engorged again and it will still be painful but stress won’t help you heal so try to relax and take it a day at a time . Best of luck !

True this! Exact advice I was going to give! The hot compress and massage does wonders!

Another tip we tell moms is to point the babys nose towards the blocked duct while nursing.

Use a vibrating tooth brush to help you get out the clog. Also try to massage and hand express. It will hurt but it helps and get better

Try a hot shower to help unclog your ducts. Sorry you're having a tough time 😔
