Baby shower for second baby?

Curious what everyone thinks is it appropriate to have a baby shower for your second child. 
Hubby and I are debating if/how to invite people as this is our second child but our first boy. I’ve gotten a couple of looks from family when I said we were going to do something on a smaller scale because I do believe every baby should be celebrated.

Its not the celebrating that’s the problem with it, it’s the asking everyone for gifts part that is a bit tacky in my opinion for second, third, etc kids. But I know others may not see it this way :)

I did a sprinkle! So just diapers and clothes. My second was a boy too after a girl. It was fun and a nice way to still celebrate him!

I think it’s pretty tacky personally. I have a girl and this baby is a boy and I absolutely under no circumstance would agree to a shower. Baby showers are to get the basics you need for a first baby while celebrating the mom embarking on her journey of motherhood. MAYBE a sprinkle if it’s been at least 5 years since the last baby but even then. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My answer is a bit complicated as the purpose of a shower varies by culture and person. 
I think its sad that when people think of showers (baby & bridal) they immediately think of having to buy something. Like yes, that can be a part of it but if u r only having a shower to receive gifts then dont have one. Most shower invitations say “to honor the mom/bride to be” “lets shower her with love” etc. They dont say “lets shower her with gifts”. To me, the heart of showers is to socialize, see people you havent maybe seen in sometime, eat together, create memories, be surrounded by positive people during important life events. sI think its sad that these events have turned so commercial that people see showers as asking for gifts & for that reason tacky.  
The people on my guestlist are those who will bring positive energy to me & my baby, not whether or not i think they can or will buy a gift. I want to surround all of my pregnancies & babies around happy people so i plan to have a shower for all of them. I may just have to clarify on invites that mine dont mean a “gift shower” but “positivity & love” shower 🤗☮️💟

I personally think a sprinkle/BabyQue makes more sense. I do agree every baby should get celebrated. But I don’t think second or more babies need to have huge showers where you expect to get expensive stuff again. I had a boy first and had my big shower where I got all my essentials (clothes, swings, pack and play, etc) but I am having a girl this time and I don’t need any big ticket items but I would like to have a small get together where people don’t need to feel obligated to bring gifts but can if they’d like. And just small stuff like diapers, wipes, clothes, pacifiers. You know stuff for this baby since it’s a different gender.

I'm having my second boy. My boys will be 4 years apart. I would do a baby shower since I gave away ALL my baby stuff but no one showed to my first shower so I feel it will be the same. We are buying new and used Items and calling it good so far.
