Non compete clause

I spoke with a recruiter at a new company and I have to check with my HR department to see if I signed a non complete clause when i was hired back in 2013. My current company looks at this new company as a competitor. The new company does not look at it that way. But here’a the thing. My company has been bought twice since 2013, can that contract still be valid? It’s called something different now. No clue if I signed one, HR is looking into It. I find this very interesting lol I never knew It was a thing😂🤷🏼‍♀️
