Nifedipine?

Question

Any Mamas take Nifedipine to stop contractions? If so, how long after you stopped did you go into labor?

Answer

I was put on at 33 week (after 48 hours in the hospital, IV magnesium, terbutaline etc but no dilation, just contractions (real ones, this was with my second baby) as often as every 4 min).  I had contractions on and off for the rest of pregnancy.  Stopped taking nifedipine at 36 weeks (it never stopped contractions but helped with night time leg cramps!).  Induced myself with sex and nipple stimulation to get contractions really going at 37.5 (as my daughter was born at 37.1).  You should ask about a calcium magnesium supplement because that helped more than the nifedipine ever did!  Hang in there!
