Elective induction? What are your thoughts?

I’m 39 weeks today, and was considering asking the dr to induce me at 40 weeks? They are estimating the baby to deliver at around 9lbs so I don’t want to go past my due date. I know the estimations can be off, but it makes me nervous that they are right and he’ll be too big to deliver naturally. Is there anything else I should be taking into consideration? I’m a ftm so I’m not sure what questions I should ask or what else I should be considering.

I elected to be induced and I loved it. We had time to go have a nice dinner together one last time I got everything in order and we went to the hospital. It was an excellent birth experience

I don’t think he’d be too big to deliver. Plenty of people push out 9-11lb babies. I just saw a midwife article about a mom pushing out a 14 lbs baby at home and only had a small tear. Our bodies are made to do incredible things lol that being said if you are more comfortable scheduling an induction then do it!

My only thoughts are that the more intervention you have the more intervention you typically need to get Bub here. Remember our bodies are designed to do this and nature won’t let the baby get too big for what your body can handle. Good luck!

Do what you feel is right for you and your baby. I’m 39 weeks 4 days. She hasn’t dropped and .5 centimeters. I’ll be induced 40 4 days.

I’m surprised your doctor didn’t do a membrane sweep to help start your labor. I stuck evening primrose up my vagina and they dissolved on their own twice a day and that helped me dilate. I delivered at exactly 39 weeks and one day. I got to the hospital cuz I was bleeding and I was 3 cm then they induced me.

It's up to you. I know it's a rough decision, but when you're done, you are done. Don't allow other moms to tell you what's best for you. If you are stressed and completely done than go for it.

Nope I had to be induced because my labor wasn’t progressing after water broke and it was the most physical pain I have ever felt in my life. I went epidural free and somehow made it but I seriously thought I was going to die and I was exhausted at the end.
