Can you choose any last name for baby?

So this might sound odd BUT
My fiancé and I are both children of abusive then absent alcoholic fathers.  We both have our dads’ last names and we both hate it.  We don’t want our son carrying on either of their names.  Could we, legally, pick a new last name for baby and change our last names to the same name as baby when we get married?

Check the name laws where you live. In Norway you can't change it to whatever you like, nor take an existing name if it's only used by 200people or less.
