Tampons

So I had a tampon in for the first time in awhile and it was fully absorbed to the fact that I was leaking so I go to remove it and it feels like it is dry and it hurt so bad and make I am going to slow how fast are you soposed to pull it out am I doing anything wrong and how can I prevent it from happening agian and feeling like I have to cry while taking it out cause it hurt so bad and by the way I use it for swimming
