It can be open. Sometimes if it's sealed they will open it anyway to test it. Just depends on the day I think. I've taken it in the original container and in separate containers with no problem. Just allow a few extra minutes to get through security because they have to test it and any water for bottles that you being through.
TSA & Baby Formula
I am preparing to travel with my little one this week and wondered about your experiences with carrying powder baby formula through TSA. I know it is permitted in reasonable quantities but I have heard different information concerning whether or not it’s necessary for the baby formula to be in a sealed container when brought through security. When you flew with your baby and brought powder formula, was the container sealed or opened? And did you have any issues? Thank you!

It's been 5 years but they checked it and marked it and sent us on our way. I had it in an opened formula container and had a bottle of water which they also marked. I was nervous cuz of all the regulations but having a infant makes it a little less problematic. But you can always call the airport to find out their preferred wayto carry formula.
