Birth control after baby?

Question

Just wondering what everyone’s doing as far as birth control after baby? I had my 2 week checkup following my c section and briefly discussed birth control options. It seems like the choices are the IUD, Nexplanon, Depo shot or pill. My doctor said these options won’t affect breastfeeding. Looking for thoughts, opinions, or general input on what y’all plan on doing or have done in the past!

Pull out method/tracking ovulation. My husband has amazing self control!  We used it for 4.5 years with no issues before deciding to get pregnant.

I had the paraguard after my first, ZERO issues and it was like it wasn’t even there, everyone’s experiences are different - talk with your doctor and don’t let one person’s bad experience cloud your choice. We took out my Paraguard and got pregnant right away. My periods were a bit heavier but nothing unmanageable.

None. Hubby and I decided we will not use BC. I personally don’t believe in them and he doesn’t either. After years of infertility the way we view BC has changed.

I’m gonna go back on the pill. It worked well for me and since I know other methods can sometimes cause other side effects I don’t want to risk it.

The Paraguard IUD was a nightmare for my cousins wife and I. I had hemorrhage like bleeding off and on for the 17 months I had it and she got pregnant with hers which led to a very scary experience. Luckily her baby was born healthy, but the first 5 months were touch and go, not to mention they were avoiding a pregnancy. I’m not sure what we will use after baby comes just yet, but definitely not that again. Sharing in case you were considering it.

I’m not going back on the pill. I would have severe migraines and stopped getting them once I got of the pill for TTC. They mess up your hormones so badly!

With my first baby I didn’t go back on any bc, because a) I don’t feel good on contraceptive hormones and b) I had gotten pregnant while on bc. But I didn’t have to worry about it until I weaned baby. Turned out that for me anyway, breastfeeding kept my cycle turned off of baby making mode. However, when baby could eat solid food I only had 3 cycles before I was pregnant again. I don’t really know what I’m going to do this time after my cycle comes back.

Loved my Mirena IUD (had one for 5 years and another one for 2.5 years) and will be going back to that. My husband is hoping I’ll agree to another baby after this one but that won’t be for another 3 years if we do decide to.

Nexplanon, I have had a bad experience with literally everything else. Nexplanon has been my best friend for the past few years.
