Epidural ?!

How painful is epidural? I’m scared I’m gonna be one of the people it doesn’t work for. Also do they use a catheter if u get an epidural??

It wasn’t the most comfortable thing ever, but it definitely didn’t hurt near as bad as the pitocin contractions. I also had a catheter.

Not painful at all!! The nails of the woman hurt worse when she was trying to find a good place to put it. It was so much better than I expected!! And yes they do put one in but after your get your epidural or spinal block so you don’t feel it at all. I didn’t even know they were putting mine in 😂

I don’t remember haha when they say you don’t remember any of your pain they mean it; but I will say this is my third baby and I’ll be getting it again so it must’ve not been that bad 😂 I remember the numbing shot was a clicking sound and a sting but it lasted as long as the pain when they do an ob, anything after the numbing shot was just pressure/ a super weird nerve feeling lol don’t stress! They also wait for a contraction to come so you’re focused on that pain and not the epidural and let me tell you I was so more focused on the contraction lol. Also when they say don’t tense up they mean it, don’t tense up I know it’s hard but the more relaxed you are the smoother it will go!

The epidural hurt for me, but that's because I have had back problems for 3 years. The epidural also would thread so that didn't help. It didn't work on my left side so they redid it and it still didn't work on my left side the second time. They redid it and on the third time it finally worked and all the pain of getting it was soo worth it

I only had one with my first. It felt like a pinch. It didn’t work correctly, and I had a reaction to it. It had to be taken out. It made me have back pain for years afterwards.

It doesn’t hurt uncomfortable yes but no pain besides you’re so focused in contractions that you don’t pay attention to them. With my first they placed a catheter until I was ready to push second time they didn’t leave one in a nurse would come in every so often to drain my bladder.

It didn’t hurt at all. And yes, you’ll be hooked up to IV fluids, so you’ll have a catheter in your arm as well.

I've never had an epidural so I can't help with that part. However I believe they do put in a catheter if you get an epidural because it generally will numb your entire lower half, making it difficult to walk to the bathroom and feel when you have to pee lol
