Bleached my hair TWICE and it’s falling out. WHY YOU ASK???

Girls... Ladies... Women... Let me advise you.

DO. NOT. BLEACH. YOUR. OWN. HAIR. AT. HOME.

I am a cosmetologist and I do it because I have practiced my bleaching process many times and I have broken down what my hair can take and what it can’t take. Whenever a customer comes in with a complex idea of what they want to execute on their own hair, I always advise them to get the hard part out the way with a professional because they know what to look for and they know the safest way to achieve your desired look.

NOW, SKIPPING ON TO MY STORY ABOUT MY HAIR FALLING OUT FROM BLEACHING MY HAIR.

I’ve done a plethora of different colors throughout my years. I’ve tried many safe methods on my hair that have worked marvelously to remove color. Before my pink above, I had BLUE BLACK HAIR covering a bright red-orange disaster. To remove it, I used an effasol color remover with some 20 volume developer and let it sit for the recommended time of 50 minutes to an hour. When I tell you my hair was PLATINUM. Girl... my hair was BLINDING. And if you could believe it, my hair was still extremely healthy. Of course there were still some spots that were darker than others (and this was due to box dye that I had used years ago. Lightener doesn’t always penetrate box dye evenly) so I did a bleach bath for 30 minutes to get the darker parts out. My hair was perfectly prepped to put pink in so I did the pink and stuck with a magenta/hot pink thing for about 3-4 months.

Because my first color remover with the Blue-Black went so perfectly, I decided to do the same thing and go to a pastelly lavender after taking the pink out, so I did exactly what I did before. Color remover with 20 vol dev. and a following bleach bath but only for ten minutes this time. Think it came out platinum? HELL NO.

My hair was at most a bright bubble gum pink still and my ends were feeling gummy. Next thing I know, I shower the bleach bath out......... CLUMPS. HUGE CLUMPS. ONE BY ONE MY CLUMPS WERE BREAKING OFF AT MY BACK HAIRLINE.

I’ve never experienced a problem this bad since I tried to get away with bleaching a teal color out of my hair 6 times years before I even started hairdressing school. I was totally confused!!!! How is this even happening, I think to myself. So I salvaged what was left with billions of protein treatments and leave ins and my hair actually felt better. So I covered all my color with a dark bright blue (which I’m very happy with!)

I work at a Beauty Supply Store, so I went in and showed my manager and tried to come up with why this could’ve happened. This literally SHOULD NOT happen under normal circumstances. So then she speculated.... “Are you on your period? That could’ve had an effect on the performance of the bleach.” And then I thought.... I’m running late. So she told me to take a test. I went home and took a test.... and it’s positive 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

So there you have it... the story of how my hair fell out and how I found out I was pregnant all in one 🤷🏻‍♀️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
