Best family dog?

Question

My family have finally decided on getting a dog. Pretty sure we are going to adopt from the local shelter or a rescue, but I was still wondering what dogs you all own and are they good family breeds?
We have four kids and a cat. We live in the city but there's dog parks all around us.

We've had many dog breeds over the years and all I can tell you is that any dog is a wonderful family dog provided it's being treated right.

We've got a mutt. Half red heeler, and the other half is unknown. Normally I don't recommend heelers as family dogs, as they are high energy and tend to nip at heels (thus the name) and have unusually high energy, but whatever my girl is mixed with calmed her right down. She looks like a chunky heeler, but acts like a big sweetheart. Never nips, doesn't mind lazy days, and loves on everyone she meets.

Don't pass up the quiet dogs either when you're looking. Often they're the more mellowed out and well behaved ones.

This is our doggo he is a pittie and he is 4. He worships the absolute ground my 13 month old daughter walks on. He is also actually a fan of our cat but yet terrified of her when she puffs up. 😂😂

I'd research breeds and see which ones fit YOUR family. Some will want a dog that is high energy, some a smaller lapdog content to chill all day. Too many people overlook that a breed may have a temperament they like but requirements they don't (brushing every day versus every week, etc). 
I'd also look into mixes or mutts rather than purebreds. Hybrid vigor is a thing and could save you some of the health issues pure breeds are famous for.

They are as sweet as can be and love every kid they meet. We adopted them from a local rescue group. They used to live on the streets 😭
 Growing up I had a golden retriever x yellow lab and he was the perfect family dog also. Definitely check out your local shelters or adoption groups!!

The top one is my dad's second one, Charlie, and the bottom is my childhood dog, Alex (who we lost to cancer a couple of years ago). They are the best, sweetest, goofiest dogs and pretty easy to train. I love goldens 💛💛💛

We have a Shih Poo named Mia. She is hypoallergenic so she doesn’t shed, she’s cute and cuddly and she’s only 10 lbs. :) I would definitely suggest any shit you type breed but I’m being bias :) Good Luck!!!

These are my babies, Teal the lab and Rocky the boxer. They both are great with kids, very protective of our son and us, however when our son tried to ride his scooter down the street, Mr. Rocky took him by the foot and would drag him home 😂 (son was older and still standing on the scooter so he basically rolled him home) 
Any dog you get will most likely be good with kids and other pets if introduced properly
