Baby used to nurse before nap (details in description). 2nd day of no nursing. Yesterday cried 10 minutes before napping. Today cried 5 minutes before falling asleep. Is it going well?
She’s 16 months old, and since I’ve been pregnant (since she was about 11 months) my milk supply has slowly tapered off. This has created the perfect opportunity to wean gradually, and she’s been a champ. It’s hurt like hell to nurse since this pregnancy began, but lately she’s only needed to nurse for 20-30 seconds before being ready for the crib (both nap and bedtime), and that’s the only time she has been nursing. This is the 2nd day of no nursing at all. I decided it was the perfect time to transition her off the boob, just several months before her little brother arrives (especially since her grandparents will need to put her to bed and down for naps when I’m in the hospital).
Just need encouragement. There’s something emotional about this transition off nursing, and I’d love to hear from moms who have made the decision to stop nursing when expecting a new baby.
Also, what did you do as part of your wind down routine in place of nursing. For the past two days I’ve just held her and rocked her for the short time that I would have been nursing her. Works great at night (no crying), but it’s harder for her to settle down at nap time (as I explained in the poll). Any suggestions are appreciated!
