What kinda wedding did you regret more?

I’m newly engaged and I wanna have an amazing wedding with my dress and all that stuff but I don’t want to spend too much and regret it. Also my family isn’t as excited about it and it makes me just not wanna do it big. Just looking for some imput.

We were getting ready to have a 150 person, big showcase wedding for all of the family and extended family, and the expense was getting so out of hand. 
We got married 6 months early with just our close family, chosen groomsmen and bridesmaids, 20 people total in a beautiful hotel with a fancy dinner and dancing and honestly it was the best decision. We didn't start our marriage in debt because of some crazy show for other people that you hardly remember after the fact. 
My best advice, don't tell your venue it's a wedding. Say it's a family get together, they will raise prices sometimes 70-80% for a wedding vs a party.

My husband an I took a couple of friends and got married in a park by my uncle. Our families were assholes and I was not going to let them ruin my day. They brought it up for a few years after that and I told them it was their own fault. I have been married almost 11 years now and wouldn’t change it. The size of my wedding didn’t impact my marriage, but I was happy and if they had been jerks there it might have impacted it.

I didn’t want big wedding, husband did. We spent $8,000-$10,000 for a four hour total ceremony and reception. I wish we wouldn’t spent longer in Europe on our honeymoon. He regrets it now. I wanted to do a me & him wedding in Alaska on a glacier for $3,000

We eloped and had an awesome 2 week honeymoon.. told everyone when we got back by sharing a video documenting the whole thing. Seeing their faces was priceless.

I was caught between having a small wedding and “my big fat gypsy wedding” wedding. If I could go back I’d do something smaller then later on do the big wedding bc I’m greedy and want the best of both worlds

I’ve had two weddings. My first one was 110 people in a banquet hall with a 2000 dress. We always regretted spending so much money. Ended up divorced. 
My second wedding was 12 people total. My dress was pink from David’s bridal and cost 500. My mom married us. I regret nothing from that day!

We had the big wedding and I wish that we would’ve gotten married at the courthouse, had a bbq or potluck style reception, and an awesome honeymoon.  It’s more my style and our honeymoon we actually got to take completely sucked because we were so broke from the wedding.

I think that you’d have to have had more than one experience to have a true opinion. I was married two weeks before our actual ceremony because my husband couldn’t get the time off work to go with me for an out of state license. Our ceremony cost less than $5,000 for the large one, so not too bad. Here’s the thing, though... After doing a big ceremony vs courthouse, if I could go back, I would do things a little differently. Our courthouse wedding was so fun and intimate. Our ceremony was stressful. I think I would have gotten the dress I wanted, still had family members dress up so we could get good pictures (my pictures from the ceremony were the one thing I’m so glad I did) and have a reception somewhere where we could eat, party, and get great pictures, but kept the actual marriage super small. That’s just me, though.
