Should I go to ER?

My lower back has hurt for 4 weeks now. I went to dr a few days ago for something else, and they tested my urine. Said I had a count of 80,000 for bacteria, prescribed bactrim for uti. 
Past few nights back pain has woken me up and I cannot get comfortable. Tonight its at its worse. Having chills and nausea too. I'm afraid that its my kidneys.

Unless you feel like your life is in danger, don't go to the ER. Try urgent care, or schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor first.

I would go first thing in the morning to an urgent care personally. Because you will likely have a pretty good wait if you go tonight. May as well get a little sleep and see someone a few hours later.

Maybe call the advice nurse and let him/her know everything you told us and see what she suggests. Usually they’ll let you know based off of your symptoms whether they think you should go in or not.

I had to go to the er for the same thing. The pain was extreme in my left back. A symptom of a kidney infection is flank pain. I was vomiting and shaking and crying for hours before I went to the er. I ended being admitted for 3 days with a kidney infection. Besides the back pain my symptoms were consistent with a cold. 
I will say that was the worst pain I've ever felt in my life.

Do you have a follow up appointment scheduled? If you tell the ER your there because your back hurts they’re going to think your there for pain meds and a back ache isn’t a medical emergency. If you can’t wait until you have a dr appointment and you really need to go to the ER go in saying your having issues with your kidneys.
