my mom wants to emigrate to america

We're from the UK and my mom has decided in the last couple of years that she wants to move to new Orleans in the next few years, once my brother has finished college. She's going just with him, although I'm not sure he will want to by then. I thought it was a pipe dream, until she said she'd been looking at jobs there.

But I'm concerned about the medical aspect of living there. Here we have the NHS and so nearly all of our medical care is free, and what we do pay for is affordable. We have schemes like exemptions certificates which mean you don't pay due to a low income, disability or such like also. She's not on a massive income at all, like I reckon under £20K, and struggles now. She's a head ward clerk at a hospice, and says she's one under the qualified nurses but not a nurse herself, so thinks her skills would benefit the US and they would want her.

Can someone give me more information about the medical insurance thing please? Or websites or something I can go on to look up how that works and what's covered. My understanding is some work places offer health insurance, but mostly basic and doesn't actually cover a lot of things we get here for free. She's on tonnes of high dose tablets a day, and has steriod injections in her neck and head every 3 months due to a neck injury that shes been told can only be managed with pain relief and the injections. So how much would these cost to maintain?

I also don't know how she'd move successfully. She has no property to sell here to buy a place over there. She has no friends or family over there to move in with temporarily.
