HCG Levels and bleeding

Monday I went to get my hcg levels checked because I saw bright red blood when I go to wipe. So the on call doctor said I have a threatened miscarriage but my cervix is closed. Monday results was 1,016 and went back Wednesday for a a retest and those levels came back at 1,091. So my original doctor stated on the phone because my levels didnt rise how he anticipated I'm looking at a potential miscarriage. Even though I'm not bleeding heavy or cramping. He still want to follow up with a ultrasound next week. Has anyone went through this before? I had a miscarriage before but I cant remember if I was in pain.
