How to get less vanilla

I’ve stated to my boyfriend that I like when he chokes me and he always says it’s weird.

He’s 29 and I’m 20. I always tell him not to kink shame me. Sometimes I’ll move his hand to my throat, or will ask him to choke me and he does. Sometimes he even does it without me asking, but then afterwards when I comment about it, he says it’s weird.

Is there a way to find a happy medium with kinks?
