Psycho in laws

So me and my in laws have never gotten along. I’m going on 3.5 years with my husband. We have had our ups and downs with the in laws and I have went through many phases of not talking to them. Finally I was just like screw it, they clearly are never going to change. It has gotten to the point that it has effected mine and my husbands relationship numerous times. Finally about 2 months ago i apologized to the in laws and said let’s just start a clean slate. Everything has been going good and then yesterday my father in law randomly said “bye fatty” to me as we were leaving. I’m use to him being disrespectful but damn it made me mad. Surprisingly I just walked out and got in the car-however my husband heard the whole thing and DIDNT SAY A WORD to his father. He never takes up for me and I’m to the point that I’m thinking of divorce. I’m just so torn because I love my husband with my whole heart, and his only flaw is that he doesn’t stand up for me. It scares me because now I don’t want to have kids with him because idk if he will stand up for the both of us.
