My husband and I both really love the name Ares, but we feel like it’s super out there and potentially controversial. I was given a really out there name and ended up hating it (it’s much uglier than Ares) so I’m really sensitive to it but my husband seems less concerned. I don’t want people to think we named our son after the god of war, my husband thinks only dumb people will do that because there are tons of common names that mean bad or lame things. We don’t like Aries with an I spelling, we feel it totally changes the name and don’t like how it looks or that everyone is going to think we named him after his astrological sign (it’s not). I’m so torn. We have a safer, common name picked out and I really just want to go with that to save him any grief but I’m having such a hard time letting Ares go. I guess I want to know what everyone’s first impression of the name is so I can just make peace with letting it go.
