Did I do something wrong?

Question

So today, I bought a diva cup at the drugstore and decided to take it for a test drive (since I'm not on my period). I followed all the steps. The first time I tried inserting, it opened and I couldn't get it up. it So, I tried removing it and it hurt.

So, I tried inserting it a second time. This time I got it in, but I could still feel it, meaning it didn't stick properly and no matter how much I tried fixing it, it didn't work. Plus, removing it still hurt. Any tips for a mestrual cup newbie?

P.S. if you guys have any recommendations for other menstrual cups for girls with tighter vaginas, that'll be great.

I have the same issue. But I really suggest not trying to test it when your not on your period

If you aren’t on your period and stressing about trying it things are probably extremely dry down there so I can imagine it would be extremely uncomfortable 😣  I have an off brand cup I got for like a dollar on wish that I’ve been using for close to two years. It takes some getting used to and the first few minutes after putting it in I feel it still (almost like it just has to settle in) If you fold it inward and then in half then put it about two inches in and slowly let go and release the fold you’ll feel it opening to its proper shape. If you google “how to insert menstrual cup” and go to images there are some really easy to follow guidelines. Good luck and don’t give up too quick, once you get the hang of it you’ll never go back

Wait until you’re in your period and boil the cup, try to make it softer by just having it in your hands and squish it

I have heard that the diva cup is oftentimes too stiff for beginners and can be too large for some. There are a lot of charts online that compare different brands of cups. Some companies also carry different sizes and strengths of cups. I think it's better to test the cup when you're on your period, because theres more fluids that can help lubricate the cup. Also, a water based lube can help with dryness as well. When testing the cup on your period, make sure to wear a back up liner/pad/period absorbant underwear. 
When you insert it, make sure it opens up. Take a finger and feel around the edge of the cup to check that it's open and covering your cervix. The cup is flexible so it's ok to push against it. To take it out, break the suction seal if you're having trouble. Press against the wall of the cup. I like using a meluna with the ring at the end of the cup, as it helps me pinch the end to pull it out. I believe it's not recommended to use the cup when you're not on your period.
I know people who used the cup who were virgins, and/or never used tampons. Theres definitely a learning curve to the cup but people have learned to use it even when they've never done any of that. It takes patience

I would wait till your on your period. Wait till your going to bed, in case you don't put it in properly you don't have to deal with the embarrassment of that happening in public. Take a warm shower before you try to insert, it helps relax the muscles. Also, check the size of your cup. They have 2 different sizes, one for non mom's, and the other for woman who have had kids or get heavier periods.
