Does it matter if his adult kids like you or not?

I’m dating a man with adult children but since they’re adults....I don’t feel like they are my step kids because they are adults. I’m still nice and polite to them out of having respect but I’m not babying them or think it matters if they like me or not.

It matters because their opinions of you might affect your relationship with your partner. I don’t think you need to buy them gifts and be extra sweet, but being polite and kind will go a long way.

I mean it’s always nice to have a good relationship with your SO’s kids, regardless if they are adults or not. Does their opinion matter? No, but why not put forth the effort to have a favorable opinion of each other?

If they're adults, I think it's a a nice to have but not a must have. Obviously having a good relationship with your partner's kids, no matter their age, is ideal but let's be honest- as adults were not obliged to like any other adults.
If they were children it's a different story.

I’m a child of a parent that recently got married to a new woman. He kept her a secret for 3 years before telling us he was getting married (out of the blue). We tried to be supportive as much as we could ( my sister and I) but she was always rude, making out with my dad in front of me and my children and pretending she knew him better than us. Not to mention she also tried to keep my kids away from him they are 4 and 2. She has her own kids so I don’t really feel like we matter in making her family complete. 
I haven’t spoken to my dad in almost a year. He has missed out on so much. I’ll just wait till their divorce in 5 years which is the typical term of each of his relationships

I’m 18, my brother is 24 and my sister is 30. My sister has 2 children and lives out of home while my brother and I are at home. My mum has had 2 relationships (since divorce), but recently she started seeing another guy. My mum cares a LOT about what we think of him, and is constantly asking if we see any red flags and if we would be okay with him being around. She’s basically letting us decide if she should pursue something more with him. Yeah, you definitely don’t have to be super involved in their lives...to be fair, they probably don’t care much about you, as long as you’re treating their parent with respect and making them happy. But being polite and making an effort to have some sort of connection with them will be in your best interest
