All Parents must read
Please take an infant Emergency Care course or at least watch St John Ambulance or British Red Cross videos online. There is a British Red Cross app which is totally free. Please go and download it and read the emergency section particularly.
My little angel is exactly 2 months old today and this morning, I thought my only care in the world was whether or not he would be awake and smile in his 2 month milestone picture. You never know what is around the corner.
This afternoon, he choked on some gripe water and stopped being able to breathe. Just like that, in a split second he started going red. Thank God I had my Mum with me and she called an ambulance while I immediately turned him over and did palm thrusts between his shoulder blades.
It wasnt working at first and his little body began to swell up. Terrified, I carried on, trying harder. He then started to turn blue and I experienced the most awful few seconds of my life. I thought the worst, but kept trying.
A few seconds before the paramedic walked through the door, he started to scream and cry and began to go paler to his natural colour. I almost didnt believe he was alright. I couldnt feel my legs. In fact, I still cant. The relief is still setting in and I havent let him go since.
I would not have known what to do had I not seen a quick demo from a St John Ambulance volunteer.
I thought it was good to know what to do, but I would never need it. It wouldnt happen to me.
Please read / watch a video / go to a course. You could save your baby's life.
