When did you first let your kids have Halloween candy?

The season is fast approaching and I have a daughter who will be two and a half at that time. She’s never before had any juice, candy, cookies, ice cream, unhealthy cake (I make her sugar free natural cakes for her bdays.)
I’m not one of those moms who wants to restrict her forever and never allow her to participate in cake at birthday parties or candy or chocolates for holidays, but I am not going to give her that kind of stuff before she knows what it is either for no good reason.
This year she will go trick r treating, but I’m wondering should I just let her collect the candy and then give it away after, or give her another type of treat to have at home after, or should I allow her a piece or two?
When did you all allow your kids to eat their treats after trick r treating?

My son is two. He has had cake and candy and juice.  We don’t give him a lot by any means but we let him have some.  He loves Reesie‘s peanut butter cups and suckers. Those are his favorites.

I wouldn’t take her trick or treating if you are going to take it away after 😔 I agree with you that I don’t think it’s necessary to stuff kids full of sugar at such a young age. But maybe do allow her a lollipop? Chances are she won’t even care for it... I always keep my daughters candy (she’s 6) up and away in a high cupboard and she knows she can only have it if she asks or we give it to her and it’s a piece or two at a time. By honestly it’s whatever you feel is best !

My son, who is currently 2.5, will be trick or treating this year. We very occasionally give him a treat like a cookie or a cupcake or ice cream, but not more than once a month or so. We also dont do juice at all. I think he will really have fun trick or treating since he, socially, is at a point where this would be a blast for him. We likely wont give him his candy right away, but will let him have a piece (and share with mummy and daddy!) occasionally. I think its fine at this age so long as they arent eating it regularly and that you can get a really good teeth brushing in afterwards.
