Is she being selfish or am I?

So last May I saved up $700 to get my first car, my mom wanted to help out so she gave me another 700 for the down payment. 3 days after getting the car, a driver ran a stop sign and hit the side of my car, making me lose control of the wheel, causing me to hit a house.. totaling my car. I was sent to the ER for a fractured wrist but was released the same day. My mom encouraged me to see a lawyer so I did 🤷🏾‍♀️. It took a few months for both parties to figure out who was at fault but it was proved to be hers. Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago... my lawyer called me saying that the driver’s insurance company is offering 6500 and that he can’t go any higher than this. After his cut and other fees it leaves me about $3000. I told my mom about it and she said she’s entitled to her $700 back since I only had the car for a few days. After paying a few things off, I’ll have about 1000 left then 300 after giving her her $700. I live on my own and have no help.. I’m going to give it to her, but I just feel like she’s being selfish. Am I wrong?

Edit: I bought a new car 3 months later.. on my own
