Can you legally apply for a credit card using someone else’s name and info?

My cousin is in prison and is trying to build his credit. He asked me to apply for a credit card in his name and use it periodically. Since he is giving permission and asking me to do it, it’s legal right?

I'm pretty sure the only legal way is if your cousin signed up for the card & requested an additional card with your name sent to you (put you as an authorized user). I still think your cousin must sign up, though.

you can sign up for a credit card in your name and add him as an authorized user. it’ll be your card but it will also report on his credit history. just make sure you think this through before you do it.
