Can you voluntarily be put under for a csection ???

I had a very traumatic emergency csection with my first child. My husband and I are discussing options for the second one. He is saying you can asked to be put under for csection, but I was under the impression that’s only in emergency situations that they will put you under? Anyone know?

I went under for my c-section. I don’t have experience with any other delivery, but I can say it’s emotionally difficult to miss the birth of your child. I didn’t hear his first cry, I didn’t hold him first, I didn’t feed him first. By the time he was handed to me, he’d been fed, wiped clean, clothed, and held my staff and my husband. He was already a couple hours old. That was tough for me to come to terms with. Fifteen months later and it still gets to me sometimes. Additionally, it’s scary to know you’re putting your child under general anesthesia as well and general anesthesia comes with it’s own risks including impacting brain functions. Some stuff to keep in mind.

My Doctor said only emergencies. Its risky for the baby. When you go under so does the baby. When baby is born it is sleeping and has to woken up which is considered to be extremely traumatic for baby. Also with repeat csections there is always scar tissue from the first and that can make it take longer to get to baby and they only have so much time. I am waiting to have my fifth csection in January. I also had a very devastating experience with my last. I got an infection after my last one almost two years ago and became septic. I had to have emergency surgery to re open my scar and clean the infection out. My wound was left wide open and I had to be on a wound vac for several months a nurse came to my home to care for me. I also had a very hard time having my spinal placed and it felt as if they were digging in my spine forever. This pregnancy I was diagnosed with 10 pulmonary embolisms at 11 weeks. And I am on a extremely high dose of blood thinners. Two shots a day into my abdomen every day until 6 months after I have my baby. I am high risk and all of my complications make my cesarean so risky. I asked both of my doctors(maternal fetal specialist and ob/gyn) if I could please be put under and they both refused. Not good for baby only if absolutely necessary.

I had a horrible experience with my 1st emergency csection not due to the surgery itself but other reasons and i gotta tell you my 2nd was sooooooooooooooooooooooo much better they didnt have to rush to get baby out so it was calmer the spinal tap made me a little nauseous but i told the anesthesiologist and got meds to help that and i got to hear my baby cry for the 1st time which i didnt with my 1st. If you ask some doctors will play music i would talk to your doctor about your concerns and figure out the best option for you

My first was an emergency as well the C-section itself wasn’t traumatic but leading up to it was. I will say scheduled is a world of a difference!! It was so relaxed and calmer. I actually got to get emotional when they pulled my daugher out bc I wasn’t tired and done. It actually took longer to get her out bc they weren’t rushed at all. I wouldn’t ask to be put under 1. Your husband can’t be in there 2. Longer recovery time before you can see baby. Do what’s best for you but scheduled is so different.

I actually asked this question because I had a very traumatic first c-section and they said no, any licensed md will only allow it if it’s necessary. She said we can discuss anti-anxiety meds at the time of delivery but being put under they will only do in emergencies. I also didn’t realize what it would do to my baby and now that I’m aware, I’ll deal with the anxiety over putting my baby through that.

The risk is slightly higher - baby will get some of the general anaesthetic until they get them out but honestly why would you want to? Not being able to see my baby for the first day (due to recovery and additional complications) was by far the worst part of my birth experience. 
I’m looking forward to being awake for this one.

I was put asleep cause I asked them to I was feeling to much of the pressure so I told my doctor doing the operation and they put me asleep...it wasn’t that serious I just didn’t like how it felt
